[FRENCH EMBASSY, CONSTANTINOPLE.]
Relation de l'Audience Publique, donnée par le Grand-Seigneur, à l'Envoyé Extraordinaire de la République Française près la Porte Ottomane, le 7 Floréal an Quatrième, (26 Avril 1796).
A document of the highest rarity, printed at the press of the French Embassy in Constantinople.
“This newsletter concerns the grand public reception for Verninac, the representative of the French Republic, at Constantinople in 1796. It contains very interesting details of the names of both Turkish and French participants. The newsletter was printed at the press of the French embassy, stablished by Choiseul-Gouffier himself, who was forced to take refuge in Odessa after the revolution. His replacement was Raymond de Verninac de St. Maur. Verninac’s reception by the Sultan was put off for almost a year because of a delay in the arrival of the Sultan’s gifts from the French Government.” (Atabey).
Extremely rare, both institutionally and in commerce. Unrecorded in LibraryHub, OCLC and Rare Book Hub.
Atabey, 1025; not in Blackmer.
