FROGER (François).
A Relation of a Voyage made in 1695, 1696, 1697
One of the “Freebooters” Capt. Macerty persuaded the French Government to mount an expedition to establish a colony in the Straits of Magellan. De Gennes was given command and the young Froger, nineteen at the time, determined to seek his fortune on the venture. After the sacking of the British trading station at the mouth of the Gambia river, the expedition continued to South America where first Bahia then Rio were visited, described fully by Froger: a most capable hydrographer, draughtsman and narrator. The expedition got to the Straits but turned back due to lack of provisions.
