A rather unpleasant copy, sellotaped into a dust jacket, seemingly bought second hand by the author and then boldy inscribed by him on the free endpaper to David Cornwell: “For David warm regards Colin Jun 75”. There is no reason to believe that the pencil marginal emphases are by Cornwell, rather than by an earlier, anonymous owner.
