The work is a parallel text in English and Zulu and explains the religious system in four parts: Unkulunkulu, or the Tradition of Creation; Amatonga, or Ancestor Worship; Izinyango Zokubula, or Divination; and Abatakato, or Medical Magic and Witchcraft.
The unsold copies of the 1870 edition were passed on to the Folk-lore Society and rebound with a new index for this edition. Due to time pressures, the fourth part was not included in the first edition and appears here for the first time.
