Toole’s kind regards. May 14 / 92’; tipped in a photographic portrait of Toole, inscribed, ‘With J.L. Toole’s kindest regards’. Toole (1830 - 1906) was the most popular comic actor of his day, and a lifelong friend of Henry Irving. Rebacked with the original spine laid down, some staining from the repair, the old spine with a few small holes.
