A stimulating study of David Ricardo and political thought in classical economics, in a sense taking its starting point from Karl Marx’s famous passage in the afterword to the second edition of Das Kapital, ‘Ricardo, ultimately (and consciously) made the antagonism of class interests, of wages and profits, of profits and rent, the starting point of his investigation, naively taking this antagonism for a social law of nature.’
Murray Milgate is an Australian-born economist and co-editor of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics (1987); Shannon C. Stimson is an American political theorist, philosopher and historian of ideas. She has been Professor of Political Science at University of California, Berkeley since 1991.
