All volumes recased, with original endpapers, and some overall wear to the bindings with a little loss of coloration, but still a striking publishers’ binding. The text is a variant of the found manuscript fantasy, in which the author is by accident detained in the castle of Rabenstein “planted on a rock, perpendicular towards the country on three sides, and separated from the spur to which it belonged by a deep, narrow ravine”, arriving there of course in the middle of a thunderstorm, with lightning playing all around. Their host entertains them with anecdotes of Black Forest mythology, which he transcribes. Not in Sadleir or Wolff.
