The Accra Club, originally known as the European Club, was founded by Sir William Edward Maxwell; Maxwell served as the governor of the Gold Coast from April 1895 to December 1897. This social club provided various social spaces for British administrators and European expatriates; the premises included a dining hall, verandah, billiards room, cards room and a reading room. The history of the Accra Club is not well documented; this pamphlet provides a small piece of insight into the social life of colonial West Africa.
Extremely rare: SOAS University of London owns “the only known surviving copy” of this pamphlet, dated 1899.
