Emil Sigmund Fischer (1865-1945) was a longtime resident in China. Born in Vienna, he came to China in 1894 and initially worked in Shanghai as a banker. He travelled widely in China and later moved to Tientsin.
Wu Tai Shan is a sacred mountain in Shanxi province, which was once home to over three hundred temples, a number that has diminished to around thirty. It is believed to be of ancient origin and is thought of as the first of the Four Sacred Mountains in Chinese Buddhism.
