KANAI (Nobuyuki).
Seinan shoko hokoku-sho. [Report about Various Southern and Western Ports].
This report was compiled on behalf of the Hokkaido Development Commissioner (kaitakushi), providing a market research study for the ports in the south and west of Japan (Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu). It provides detailed statistics about specific items handled at each port, along with their quantities and values together with information about the number of households and population around each port. Furthermore, it shows the opportunities of exporting goods from Hokkaido (fish fertilizer, kelp, herring, etc.) to the South-western regions. It is an important document for understanding domestic trade in early Meiji Japan. Very rare. Only two copies in OCLC (Nat. Diet Library & Waseda).
