Onaka Koji was born in Fukuoka in 1960. After graduating from the Tokyo Photography College in 1982 he founded a gallery in Shinjuku and he is now a well-respected figure in contemporary photography. The present work is his first book full of decay, sadness, and loneliness. The title refers to a type of weed which one often finds in derelict areas. One can discern the influence of Moriyama and Fukase. Sometimes warm, sometimes cold, the black and white images have a slightly dull tinge that befits the subject. Nakahira Takuma gives a strong endorsement on the obi: “Onaka Koji has accurately captured and expressed the era itself. I can declare that this is a wonderful collection of photographs.”

This copy was presented by Onaka Koji to the great photographer Kuwabara Kineo (1913-2007).
