Jean Deyrolle was one of the leading figures of French abstraction in the post-war period; already in ill-health by the time the collaboration with Beckett was conceived, the five drawings proved to be the final accomplishment of his life and the finished books were published posthumously, signed with a studio stamp alongside the signature of Beckett.
