A unique extra copy
A unique, slightly DIY Western-paper copy of Serizawa’s small-format edition of the Don Quixote.
In 1978 Gohachi worked with Serizawa to publish the “shrunken” edition of their great collaboration, Shinpan ehon don-kihote [New edition: Picture Book of Don Quixote]. The present copy contains all the same plates, which have been printed on Western (as opposed to thin washi) paper and hand-coloured slightly differently. According to the colophon, seven extra copies were printed for the ‘shobo bunshitsu’ (publishers’ office), of which only one was printed on Western paper.
