A brief but scholarly geography of Palestine, based on descriptions in the Bible. An appendix on Commander William F. Lynch’s 1847-48 expedition to the Holy Land (which aimed at mapping the Jordan River and Dead Sea), brings the content up-to-date, with information from the first truly scientific study of the region.

The work was printed at the English College in Lisbon, where the author was President.

Provenance: Ink inscription, ‘Library W. Hilton’, to the title-page. Rev. William Hilton was based at the College at the time.
