BARROW (Sir John).
Sketches of the Royal Society and Royal Society Club.
WITH NOTES ON COOK, BANKS & DALRYMPLE
A lovely copy containing detailed accounts of the various presidents and famous members of the Society, including Sir Joseph Banks and Alexander Dalrymple, with particulars regarding their connection with Pacific and Australian explorations. Dalrymple was the compiler of the famous series of South Sea voyages which bears his name, and was to have been appointed to conduct the expedition which was placed under James Cook. Banks, of course, accompanied Cook on his first voyage, and was one of the foremost scientists of all time.
