A presentation copy, inscribed “To David Paton, from his affectionate friend, John Davidson.” Paton was the dedicatee of Bruce (1886), and may have been of the clan of Allen Park Paton, the Greenock librarian and Shakespeare enthusiast. Wrappers somewhat foxed and stained, spine darkened, and with a 1 cm chip at the foot of the spine, but a very good copy nonetheless.
