A TEXTILE SOUK IN ABU DHABI
A bright and beautiful watercolour by Spencer W Tart, an English architect and artist who made several trips to the Arabian Gulf in the 1980s.
He first visited the Arabian Peninsula in 1980, when he was invited to work on a conservation study of the historic city of Old Jeddah. This painting finds him on the Eastern (Gulf) coast of Arabia, capturing a souk in Abu Dhabi. It shows the section of the market dealing in textiles, with several vendors resting in the shade cast by their sheets and garments.
