NECKER (Jacques).
Sur le compte rendu au roi en 1781. Nouveaux éclaircissemens.

Necker’s vehement defence against accusations made by his successor, Charles Alexandre de Calonne, who claimed that Necker’s tenure as comptroller-general of finances was not the success it was generally perceived as, and that Necker’s celebrated Compte rendu - a balance sheet of his administration which gave the first-ever public exposition of French royal finances - was based on incorrect figures. Eventually the claims were proved to be unfounded. Calonne was dismissed, and Necker returned to office shortly thereafter.

One of at least four editions from 1788 with no established priority, including Parisian quarto and octavo editions published by Hotel de Thou as well as quarto and octavo editions issued in Lyon.
