POTTER (Beatrix).
The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse.
Based on the Aesop Fable, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. From the 1920s onwards Beatrix Potter’s eyesight began to fail, and so more and more of the illustrations for her books had to be pieced together using drawings she had sketched years earlier. The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse was her last work to be illustrated with entirely original drawings.
The first printing is identifiable by a printing error to the title page with the dropped ‘N’ in the imprint, which was corrected in the present second printing.
A very good copy, gift inscription to verso of front free endpaper in an early hand, small paper flaw to lower corner of half title, contents otherwise unmarked, only light wear to tips of spine and corners.
