The principal work by Fryderyk Skarbek (1792-1866), ‘considered the father of Polish economic thought’ (Horvath, p. 25). Skarbek was an influence on the development of Karl Marx’s theory of labour, and Skarbek’s Théorie des richesses sociales is repeatedly referenced in Marx’s Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. The present French text represents the first edition of the book, which was not translated into Polish until 1859.
