Coffee Estate the Residence of Captain Mackison. Blue Mountain. [He died in 1842] 250 by 210mm. Signed in full.

[Mandeville] “ From the rectory lower window“. 23 by 18 cms. Initialled.

£950.00

The view of Mandeville bears on the reverse a lengthy inscription:

“Taken from the rectory drawing room window. The Church the Jail, the cotton tree the Court House, by the church a lightning pole. The field by the Church and the one with cows belong to the rectory and [are] for our use. We shake up a qr. of a pound of butter in a bottle every other evening which is to me a great treat after getting nothing but bad salt since leaving England. Cotton trees are always pale gray stems from 60 to a hundred feet in height one of the most striking features of the country.”
