An attractive copy in a handsome eighteenth-century Italian binding, of this mid-sixteenth century Giolito edition of Thucydides’ history of the Peloponnesian War.
An essential for any Renaissance library, editions issued from the Giolito press with dates 1563, and 1564 as here, with the same contents (the dedicatory preface by Thomaso Porcacchi is dated February 1, 1563); the translation from the Greek is by Soldo Strozzi, the first edition of which was printed by Valgrisi in 1545.
Minor staining to fore-edge of title page, but excellent condition.
