Horiguchi Daigaku (1891-1981) was a famous poet as well as a translator of French literature during the Taisho and Showa period. He was awarded several honours including the Person of Cultural Merit (Bunka korosha), Order of Culture (Bunka kunsho), as well as the Order of the Sacred Treasure (Zuiho-sho). The present book contains 16pieces of writing/poetry in his own hand, including “Maiden Girl” (Otomego) and “Intimate”.
Kakuseikyo was a private publisher based in Niigata prefecture who specialised in elaborately produced limited editions. Particularly impressive is the carved lacquer slipcase which imitates a piece of bamboo in combination with a fine piece of grained wood.
