POPPER (Karl R.)
Unended Quest. An Intellectual Autobiography.
INSCRIBED TWICE BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS PERSONAL SECRETARY
A wonderful association copy, inscribed twice by the author to Melitta Mew (1929-2018), the first inscription in blue ink ‘To Mrs Melitta Mew from K.R. Popper’, below which is a later, more affectionate, second inscription in black ink ‘For Melitta with love, eight years later, Karl.’
Melitta Mew served as Popper’s personal secretary from 1982 and was the executor of Popper’s estate following his death in 1994. Popper’s biographer Haim Hacohen described Melitta Mew as ‘managing every aspect of his life’ following the death of Popper’s wife in 1985.
Popper’s autobiography was first published in 1974 as part of The Philosophy of Karl Popper, a two-volume study of Popper’s thought edited by Paul Arthur Schilpp. Popper then revised the text for the present paperback edition which was first published in 1976, marking its first separate appearance.
