HANDSOME TOURIST MAP OF DUBAI
An attractive map of Dubai in 1977. Issued by Consolidated Enterprises, an Abu Dhabi-based office provider, it was principally designed with businesspeople in mind. The majority of the named buildings are banks and other businesses, both international and Emirati. A convergence of new showrooms along the creek displays considerable Japanese investment, with Honda, Toshiba, Sanyo and Seiko all represented.
The reverse lists essential information (embassies, airlines, hotels etc.), intermixed with colour photographs of the principal dock, various stalls in the Suq and the iconic Deira clocktower.
This example has a small sticker adhered to the cover-title, “With the compliments of The British Bank in the Middle East”, suggesting it was available at various locations across the UAE.
