A collected of five essays, based on a series of lectures delivered to the Fabian Society in 1941, with an introductory note by John Parker, General Secretary of the Fabian Society. Orwell’s contribution is titled “Culture and Democracy”.

Provenance: From the library of Orwell scholar and former UCL deputy librarian Ian Angus, with the original advertorial postcard from Hammersmith Books, addressed to Angus, loosely inserted; a few pencil annotations. Angus was the co-editor of Orwell’s Collected Journalism, Essays and Letters published in 1968 and also later contributed to editing the enormous 20-volume edition of Orwell’s Complete Works published 1997-8.

A good copy, dust jacket discoloured along spine and with a few repairs verso. Signature of A.W. Wood to front free endpaper.
