ORWELL (George), et al.
Victory or Vested Interest?
The true first edition of this collection of essays on wartime life and challenges, printed for members of the Labour Book Service, preceding the Routledge trade edition published later in the same year.
Contributions by G.D.H. Cole, Francis Williams, Harold J. Laski, Mary Sutherland and George Orwell. This edition actually preceded the Routledge trade edition and was for members of the Labour Book Service only.
Provenance: From the library of Orwell scholar and former UCL deputy librarian Ian Angus, with his neat pencilled ownership to the front free endpaper. Angus was the co-editor of Orwell’s Collected Journalism, Essays and Letters published in 1968 and also later contributed to editing the enormous 20-volume edition of Orwell’s Complete Works published 1997-8.
A very good copy. Boards and outer spine with some wear. Former owner’s signature to upper pastedown.
