Tipped off by Burckhardt who had rediscovered the unexcavated temple. Belzoni made two journeys to Philae during his second visit he cleared the accumulated sand and exposed one of the great temples of the ancient world. His pictorial depictions and printed narrative of his exploits togther with the subsequent exhibition in London, lead to an explosion of interest in ancient Egypt.
