£400.00

A scarce juvenile work on the Arctic region. The book narrates the expeditions of Parry in search of the Northwest Passage. The story is told by a “Captain Mackey,” said to have been with Parry, to his two young friends William and Patrick, sons of a friend, and the text includes their questions as well as the Captain’s talk. The Captain’s account is quite detailed. The illustrations are based on Parry’s originals, one of them an engraved representation of “A young Esquimaux Woman.” According to the Advertisement, “This work, originally prepared and published by the ‘Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor in Ireland, held in Kildare Place, Dublin,’ has been reprinted by their permission and illustrated with new cuts, for the use of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.” Scarce, with only six copies in OCLC.
