[NAPOLEON]
The Wags of Paris or Downfall of Nap the Great.

Rare. There are examples at the British Museum, Bodley and at Harvard.

A satire on Napoleon’s disastrous retreat from Moscow based on a real story reported in the English newspapers of “some wags of Paris” who “having obtained a number of dogs, they for several nights together tied tin-kettles to their tails, and labels round their necks, with the words, ‘run away from Moscow,’ and giving the animals their liberty, they run with great velocity and fury in various directions, to the great excitement of the Parisians” (see for example Saint James’s Chronicle, 2nd March 1813).
