WATERTON (Charles).

Wanderings in South America,

the North-West of the United States, and the Antilles, in the Years 1812, 1816, 1820, and 1824.

First edition. Engraved frontispiece. 4to. Original papers boards, with title label (this a little rubbed but completely readable). A little sporadic light foxing throughout. Uncut. Very good. With the bookplates of Viscountess Sidmouth and Geoffrey E.P. Arkwright, with his signature to title-page. vii, 326pp. London, J. Mawman, 1825.

£600.00

Former owner’s inscription to half-title: “Marian Arkwright from Uncle Horace Currie Dec. 29, 1873.”

A very good untrimmed and wide-margined copy of Waterton’s Wanderings, a classic of English travel literature. He chose particularly to present in a readable form his extensive natural history observations. These are, however, still sufficiently exact to make positive identifications of species.
