First edition of this collection of eight macabre and disturbing stories, previously unpublished in England.
This copy is inscribed by the author in blue ink to the front free endpaper: ‘Water [sic] de la Mare from Cynthia Asquith 1952’. The recipient was the noted English poet, short story writer and novelist Walter de la Mare. He is probably best remembered for his works for children, for his poem ‘The Listeners’, and for his psychological horror short fiction, including ‘Seaton’s Aunt’ and ‘All Hallows’.
Minor spotting to prelims, else unmarked internally; spine tips sunned, corners slightly rubbed. Dust jacket, loss to head of spine, a few chips and short tears to extremities, light spotting to rear panel, otherwise very good.
