Inscribed by Bainbridge to fellow author Malcolm Bradbury: “To lovely Malcom with love. Beryl Bainbridge”. A generous inscription given this book failed to be nominated for the Booker Prize in 1980, when Bradbury was Chair of the judges. Bainbridge was famously nominated five times, failing on each occasion. The Jimmy White of the Booker Prize, perhaps? A fine copy in dust jacket.
