A detailed chronicle of the five-month campaign to supress the rebellion staged by the natives of Mashonaland against Cecil Rhodes’s settlers. The Matabele Rebellion, which broke out in March, 1896, had by June of that year spread to Mashonaland. Alderson played a major part in the campaign which did not, in fact, end until in October 1897.
